My understanding is it needs to be 30 SAE and must be Non-Detergent oil.
This from my Twin Disc manual. Regards, Bill

Good Afternoon,
Working on Sea Gypsy, my NT 42-047, and need to change the TwinDisc
Reduction Gear Oil.
Does anyone know the oil weight and quantity required for the change?
Thanks Very Much
Robert
Here’s the replacement plate for the gear (in a 37) that Mill Log (Twin Disc manufacturer) made for me when I picked up a trolling valve. The straight grade depends on operating temp. See my previous comment on 15W40 as an option as well.
Cheers!

I have 37-202 so it will be different for you, but there is a plate riveted to the gear that tells quantity and recommended weights. For mine, just for reference, it’s .85 gallons of SAE 30 or SAE 40, depending on climate. The dipstick also gives instructions for checking the level—on mine it says “engine idling in neutral” for checking the fill level.
I will also tell you—my guy at Mill Log (mfr of the Twin Disc) told me it’s fine to run 15W40 if you wish to keep a single type of oil on the boat (i.e. same as genset and main), IF you change it annually, and do not exceed 500 hours between changes.
Cheers!
