Can someone help me with sourcing screens for the portholes on Nordic Tugs 32, or the name of the maker of the SS porthole hatches.
Thanks

Hi Tony,
On 32-287, the portholes are ABI Round Stainless Steel Portholes 8". ABI
went out of business. I've been unable to find anyone who sells the
screens.
I ordered 4x Man Ship 8" round porthole screens (MD:LSR-08-SN) from
Sailboatstuff.com but they don't fit very snugly in the holes. Snugly
enough not to fall out yet, but not snugly enough for me to be confident
they won't. I also found some rumors that there were compression retainer
rings for the Man Ship screens. I contacted them to see if they had these
retainer rings and also asked if they had any old ABI screens laying
around. The answer was no on both fronts.
If you have better luck than me, I would be very interested if you can find
them.

Apparently at different times Manship, Bomar and New found metals supplied NT. Richard at NFM seemed to think Manship supplied them in 2005 (my year) but I as yet can't verify this. I have been trying to source gaskets, as mine are getting a little stiff, so hope better info will come.

We got a set of these this year, and they have served well. My one tip is to just barely insert them from the inside, i.e. don’t fit them into the groove in the porthole. Even if only inserted maybe 1/4”, the porthole will close with no interference.

Sorry, just saw this reply from Ryan and didn’t mean to duplicate. I’d agree with his estimation that they are not super-tight, but if you avoid the groove as mentioned, plus make them fit really square, they seem to be ok. Also, they do have two small “handles” that one could use to attach a small leash of sorts to the porthole perhaps (I’m thinking about that inner spring in the porthole as an attachment point that wouldn’t cause the seal to leak).
We were underway with these for about 7 weeks this summer, and had numerous days of heavy weather, both boarding and quartering seas. Didn’t lose any so far and no movement that I can see. The dog, however, did push one into the boat when checking in on the person in the head…
Cheers!
