Gentlemen
Your comparing apples & oranges. A 37 Nordic with a CUMMINS 5.9L will use much less fuel than a Nordic 42 with its larger block & HP. Plus the Nordic 42 weight is 1/3 higher than a 37.
Plus there is a Huge Fuel curb when increasing speeds from 8-9-10GPH.
Good Luck

Sounds like a prop pitch problem. Especially your fuel consumption number. We get 1.75 gal/hour (average over 400 hrs) at 1600, 8.5 knots on a 330 hp Cummins. I don't think you should be burning more than 2.5. Your lower max rpm is also a good indicator. I am assuming you have a clean bottom.Dick TudanLast Tango NT37-73

Hi Craig
Speed & RPM's do appear low. But not certain which engine you gave. Was thinking they should have 2600.
Tell me some more info & we can assist.

Good information from the digest... one of the benefits of owning a tug...
Bought the 2004 - 42 with a 450 cummins, 1000hrs... have top speed of 11 knots at 2400rpm,
Most of the time cruising at 8 - 10kts, east coast intracoastal and some offshore.. speed is through the water with a paddle wheel sensor, consider accurate when comparing with gps / current/ wind...
Used 5 1/4 gph over 200 hours...
Most of the literature that I see show a top speed higher... any thoughts?
