Two 30A shore power connectors.  All AC grounds tied together as I would expect.  Both AC neutrals tied together—not what I expected.  The neutrals are separate on the C/B panel (on the line or input side) but each has its own buss bar on the load side.  There is a separate neutral added to the load side of the circuit breaker which appears to have been added after the vessel was originally wired.  I suspect that this is from the inverter and will trace out the wiring today.  The plot thickens.

Many boats in our area have had similar issues. In most cases it was tied to the inverter, so you seem to be on the right path.

Harry,

Had I read your next post I would have seen that you are way ahead of me.  Another memory surfaces...  I found a fair bit of information googling this issue and if I recall correctly, the Trawler Forum had several threads that dealt with neutral issues and popping shore power.

Here's one of them that comes at it from a different direction but may be helpful:

Hi, David, and I greatly appreciate your inputs.  I am making progress and have found some questionable wiring in the AC input wiring and output wiring on the Freedom 30 charger/inverter.  Have spent the afternoon going through the manual and comparing it to the actual wiring.  Many options and not easily understood, but I feel that I am making progress.  I use the charger regularly but rarely use the inverter, so may experiment by disconnecting the inverter output from the AC panel.
