My NT42 has a Lewmar Claw Anchor (66 lbs) that really does not fit and will not self-launch (unless I change out the anchor platform/roller). What anchor did NT42s come with and what anchors are others using that self deploy and fit well on a NT42?

Hi Dave,

I would strongly recommend starting this research by watching the SV Panope videos on YouTube to view excellent unbiased testing and assessments of various  anchors’ performance. Steve Goodwin uses a lot of underwater videos, objective measures, testing of self launching abilities and careful comparatives to provide enough information to make an informed choice.

Anchor performance varies widely & often people’s preferences are not based on any good data.

Good luck,

-evan

We put a 85lb M2 Mantis on ours a few years ago. We had a 85lb M1 (hoop style) from our previous sailboat but it didn’t fit when we tried it. We have been real happy with this anchor.

Been using a Vulcan on my NT42 with all chain. Drops easily but may need a poke with the pole to position for the last little bit on retrieval. So far so good including soft mud and reversals where my prior Rocna on an Outbound 42 didn’t do as well. Has held in 30-35kts. sustained (with higher gusts) at 6 1/2 to 1 in 20’. Unfortunately didn’t have room for more rode. Impressed the nextgens seem to need less rode. We anchor frequently. Usually at 5:1 (knock on wood) no late night reanchoring yet.
