Hi Peter -  We have a stern thruster on Old Bear (Nordic Tug 42) and it is
VERY useful -- especially when docking stern in with wind and current.  Old
Bear has a lot of windage so I wish both bow and stern thrusters were more
powerful -- but we have learned to make do and so far no disasters.  We are
now in Beaufort SC -- aiming for St Simons today.  Best, David & Genie

Subject: Stern Thruster

I need a little insight into stern thrusters. My wife and I are going to
do the Great Loop 03/19, starting from Charleston, SC. We have decided on a
Nordic Tug 32 for the trip. We chartered a Ranger Tugs 29 for a “test run”
and were spoiled by the bow and STERN thrusters. So, my question is: is it
crazy to have a stern thruster installed before we start our trip? I am not
a seasoned boat person with many years of experience. I want the most
enjoyable, lowest stress adventure possible. I believe a stern thruster
will contribute to that goal. Your valuable insights would be appreciated.
