300 amp fuse

Hello fellow NT owners:

I have a 2006 32’.  My boat is factory equipped with an inverter/battery charger along with four 6v batteries, which are designated as the House battery bank.  My boat does not have a generator.

In a very narrow space behind the house battery bank and the hull there was a fuse block screwed to the deck with a 300 amp fuse.

I am sure the fuse to battery location distance was within AYBC specs, however that location left the 300 amp fuse hidden from sight.

I am unsure what other models or years have this design.

Admittedly after 9 years of ownership, I paid little attention to the fuse or its location as basically it was “out of sight and out of mind”.

Recently searching for a dropped tool, I looked at the 300 amp fuse block and the cables leading to and away.  I discovered much to my surprise that apparently over the years water/moisture caused the terminal ends and fuse area to turn green and corrosion was creeping up inside the battery cables.

Following the advice of a certified marine electrician, the 300 amp fuse block, and several battery cables were replaced and relocated to a back board located a bit off of the deck.

A battery on/off type switch was also installed in between the fuse block and inverter/charger.

The 300 amp fuse and the on/off switch are no longer out of sight.

May I suggest, that if your boat is set up this way, check the 300 amp fuse block, and the associated cabling.

I have a photo if anyone has any interest.
