Hey Dave... I'm sure we have the same hatch being only 26 boats apart!
How much smaller does the round opening make the hatch. Is it still easy to egress out of the round opening? Does the round opening make it more difficult to open the hatch?

Rio,
If you’d be interested in an upgrade for your Bowman hatch screen, you might look at the SeaBreeze shade screen. I contacted Pompanette/Bowmar and gave them my Bowman hatch model/serial number and they set me up with the right shade screen. Perfect fit. They’re not cheap; mine was around $350 with shipping, but it made things a lot easier and it also includes a shade. We might have the same hatch. Here are the details for my screen:

Rio,
That must be a generic illustration for all of their shade/screens. I think it’s pictured to represent a hatch. That panel with the round hole is not part of the shade/screen. I can get a picture of mine in a day or two.

In any case, does the screen not retract, exposing the full hatch opening? That is the way my Oceanair (Dometic) screen works. It can be a screen, an opaque shade, or fully open, which allows full access to the hatch mechanism and opening. Dometic Oceanair Skyscreen Recessed - Combination hatch blind for recessed application

We have the had the OceanAir roller screen shade in place since 2015 & would definitely not want anything else. It’s perfect for that application / location. A world of difference from futzing around with clips and removable shades or screens.

Rio,
Here’s a picture of the SeaBreese shade/screen from Bowmar. Happy to discuss details offline (davesire104@gmail.com mailto:davesire104@gmail.com).

Thanks Dave, you have solved the hatch riddle I’ve had for many years—where can I get a combo shade/screen for my boat’s hatch in the master stateroom.
I just ordered the same one you have pictured from Pompanette for my 2005 NT37. The model number is GSB2022 which is the surface mount 22 1/8” x 22 1/8” Seabreeze shade screen from Bomar/Pompanette. Today’s price was $475 plus shipping and handling. Deliver is 5-6 weeks. The item can be found at Pompanette.com http://pompanette.com/.
