Lifepo4 -NT37 house battery?

Hi all,

Have you changed NT37 house bank 4*6V 220ah AGM batteries to lifepo4 batteries, what changes did you make to your system?

I have now ordered 2*260ah 12V lifepo4 batteries and DC-DC charger to save alternator + second AC-DC charger (only lifepo) and I was thinking about the future installation

I have the original Blue sea ARC 7600, I was wondering if it should be removed from the system when the system changes, so that the lifepo bank charges the starter batteries with a DC-DC charger.

ARC will then serve bow battery banks and starter batteries only?

I haven't seen any instruction on ARC switching when using a lifepo house bank.

Can you help me, pleace?

Hi,

This is not a small undertaking but very worthwhile IMO.

If you are going to consider making the switch to LFP you will need to do a lot of research. If you aren’t happy & comfortable with electrical wiring etc. it’s probably best to get a professional installer to design & install your system.

I would also argue that you would probably want more capacity but that’s your choice.

I recently reported on my experience on a Facebook group for Epoch Batteries (The Epoch’s are excellent BTW. ) I do not care for Facebook as a rule but appreciated some of the help I got there.

Also, to be ABYC compliant and for safety’s sake, you really don’t want to allow any scenario where you can place the LFP house bank and the Lead Acid banks in parallel.  The old ACR relay can be reused for other purposes  but you don’t want to be able to inadvertently get the two different chemistries into an unrestricted parallel connection.

We have 2 separate ACR relays onboard.  One has been reconfigured to join the Stern Thruster bank and the Start Bank.  (Another joins the Generator start battery to the Start bank - not included in the attached schematic.)

The wiring revisions are extensive and need a lot of thought…
