Black water tank mystery

Greetings from Oregon.

I am attaching a few photos for reference with hopes of solving a bit of a mystery. It seems that the black water tank on our 1997 32 was either bypassed entirely (never used) or was later bypassed. The Sealand macerator is dated 11/95 and is also listed as an option on the original bill of sale. This makes me think that it was installed at the factory when the boat shipped new in 1997. What I’m not understanding is why the black water tank seems to never have been utilized. I have since taken the SanX / Sealand components out completely and plan to connect to the black water tank located under the engine bilge instead. Have any of you seen a system like this where the black water tank built into the boat was bypassed?

I would guess if it was bypassed it might be for a good reason.  Once you reconnect I would be careful how you utilize until you're sure all is well.
