We have Nt 32-284. Simply put two tees in then you have the option to either use raw water or fresh. We also have raw water in our galley for rinsing dishes. Saves a ton of water. Cheers Hans and Debbie Bulk.

The obvious answer is odor. We did this conversion on our former NT32 and used freshwater where it was easily come by and raw water when it was not. Our boat guru Jeff Gleckler built a two valve device to control which water supply was in use. Why two valves rather than a simple Y? To prevent backflow from the raw water system into the fresh during transition. Close one, then open the other. Simple.

Aside from the obvious question WHY. You might consider installing a T in the fresh water hose and adding a selectable Y fitting as input into the wash down pump. One branch of the Y to Fresh the other branch of the Y to Raw and the output to the wash down pump. That would give you the option of selecting raw or fresh water for the wash down. I have used a both metal and plastic garden variety Y fittings for many years on our sailboat.

Hello,
I would like to convert my raw water washdown into a fresh water washdown on 32-289.
The fresh water pump is a Jabsco P501J-115S-3A 5 GPM, 40 PSI.
The raw water washdown pump is a Jabsco 82505-0092 5 GPM, 70 PSI.
The pumps are right next to each other in the engine room. My plan was to just tee off the hose from the freshwater tanks and into the inlet side of the washdown pump, replacing the hose from the through-hull. I don't expect them to be running at the same time.
I assume since the inlet sizes are the same and the max flow rate (5 GPM) is the same for both pumps, I wouldn't have an issue.
Has anyone done this? Does anyone advise against it?
Thanks in advance.

My solution is to use the salt water wash down for cleaning the anchor and chain and use a battery operated DeWalt Power Washer for cleaning the deck, cabin top, etc. I already have several DeWalt cordless tools and the power washer can take water from a bucket or a fresh water hose.
