On Bessie, our NT 32-238 are 12K BTU and 16K BTU. Air conditioners, 2004 vintage. Has anyone had their run capacitors and/or PTCR’s replaced?
If so, I would appreciate knowing what values: voltage and mfd. The values are written on the components, but they are not visible without removing the covers—very difficult to do.
Manufacturer claims no information due to age of systems.
Many thanks.

What are the symptoms that lead you to believe replacements are needed for the run caps and/or PTCRs?
I have had various MarineAir ACs for about 30 years. I have done lots of work on them, including replacing various parts.
The parts lists from MarineAir, both recent and older, show literally dozens of run capacitors for various AC models, capacities, voltages, frequencies, etc.
I would never blindly go by something on the internet when the original is available.
If the supplier cannot give the correct information based on model number and serial number you will need to take the covers off.

Hi, Gene, and thanks for your very helpful advice. The 12k BTU unit makes a buzzing noise when it starts (if it starts), and the 16k BTU is the same vintage. This points to a marginal capacitor, so while I am at it, I intend to replace the caps and PTCRs. Reason for asking on SENTOA is that we are at home in Jacksonville, FL for the winter and boat is in Brewerton, NY. You are correct that I need to take the covers off.
Many thanks.

A buzzing noise instead of starting is often a start capacitor, but it could be other items.
MarineAir made some changes in the early 2000’s timeframe. The older units have a run cap, a start cap, and a start relay. The newer units have a run cap and a PTCR start assist. It is hard to know what your units have without taking a look. If you have the exact model designation that would pretty well define the schematic, although not necessarily the component values.
In any case, there is likely no real way to do anything except read and study until you can get back to the boat.

Hi, Gene, I have the schematics for both units. They have a run cap and a
PTCR start assist. The schematics do not list any values, however. I am
just trying to get a head start on this before we head back to the boat in
mid-May. We surely will not need air conditioning for several weeks, so I
will have plenty of time to tackle this project before the summer heat
arrives.
I was just hoping that some other NT owner had corrected this problem and
could share the component values with me. The model numbers and serial
numbers are:
Cruisair: Product number: 207-315512 12K BTU Model number ZF12/2, serial
number 839998654 This one is located under the helm seat.
and Marine Air Systems Product number: 207-315016 16K BTU Model number
CLM16KC/2, serial number 54494047 This one is located on the left side of
the stairs to the forward berth.
Best wishes,
