Has anyone upgraded their shaft brush on a NT37. I've been told the small brush most of us have on a 2 in. shaft is very ineffective. I'm looking at the MG Duff product from the UK.Henry Gamsby LYRA NT 37-90 Fairhaven,  MASent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

I’d be interested to know where you heard the criticism of the original shaft brush.
My original brush broke and I replaced it with one from Sure Marine (https://www.suremarineservice.com/Electrical/Replacement-and-Spare-Part/SB-6B.html https://www.suremarineservice.com/Electrical/Replacement-and-Spare-Part/SB-6B.html). Almost an exact match.
Dave Allen at Nordic Tugs helped me find the new source as the original manufacturer went out of business.

HI Henry,

I bailed on the original shaft brush as it would squeal and the pads eventually fell off.  After replacing it twice, I looked to another solution.

I installed a strap from this vendor:
https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5d230a26babc7000011f71c7/t/5e4ca91c88b5487eccd115c4/1582082343289/MPS_Product_Guide_Shaft_Strap+indd.pdf https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5d230a26babc7000011f71c7/t/5e4ca91c88b5487eccd115c4/1582082343289/MPS_Product_Guide_Shaft_Strap+indd.pdf

It’s worked very well.  (Note: I’ve since switched to a Tideseal shaft seal and the bilge is now dry; but that’s another story.)

Interesting. Thanks for the information. Guess I’ll do some testing. The MG Duff model looks interesting.

Greeting from the UK (or should I say 'rudderless UK', considering our
current politics!)

I actually have a spare MG Duff electro eliminator if anyone is interested.

Evan - Tugaway
With regards to the Tide Marine shaft seal, was there there any need to
modify the stern tube at all?

Thanks

Hi Steve,

The Tide Marine shaft seal required no modifications to the stern tube. It is much drier than the PSS was & is a better design IMHO. We put a spare seal on the shaft so if it ever needed replacing, it can be easily slid in place without needing to pull the shaft.

Hi Greg,

You contacted the https://cmpgroup.net/ people?

I emailed the Australian company & was preparing to arrange some sort of shipping when one came up locally on eBay as a one off deal. That was probably more BBC than 4 years ago now…

Sorry I can’t help more than that.
