Has anyone change their Cummi s 6BTA from the 180 to 160 degree thermostat?Henrt GamsbyLyra 37-90Fairhaven, MASent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
Henry,
Unless you run your Tug at 80% throttle (or more) almost all the time, it is best to stick with the 180 Stat. Most Tuggers run at about 50% throttle (or even a bit less) most of the time, and your engine would not reach a good working temperature with the 160, possibly creating issues. Check out sbmar.com for lots of info on marine diesels (Cummins in particular), in both their forums and under "Tony's Tips". I am not affiliated in any way, just found the site very useful and informative.

I chose to stick with the 180 degree for same reason FireFighter mentioned. I usually prefer cruising below 1600 RPMs.
