Bessie's black rub rails are no longer black. What should we use to
restore the nice black color?
I read somewhere that Tacomarine supplied the rubrails, but Nordic Tugs
does not appear on their list of boat manufacturers.
Many thanks,

I use 303 protectant - seems to work fine, I give it a little rub every month in cruising season.

Ours were heavily oxidized and the only thing that would effectively bring
them back to a deep black was acetone. It's laborious, and be careful to
keep acetone off the gelcoat as much as possible. After acetone, I used
Penetrol to penetrate followed by Mother's Back to Black to seal. I did a
considerable amount of research and trial to get to land on that process,
and I was happy with the end result.

I use Chemical Guys plastic restorer and it works like a hot damn. Wipe on, wipe off; super simple and it looks like new. I only need to do it once a year at most.

We tried the Star Bright product below last year. It worked for about 6 months. Not sure I would recommend it. Personally I’m going to try something else next time.

I would second the Chemical Guys rubber treatment. We found it works well, just remember to polish it off so your not left with an oily surface. Sure does last the entire season.
