Port Windshield Wiper Runs non stop

Good morning

As the title indicates- my port wiper runs non stop, even with the toggle switch completely disconnected.  . Obviously when I disconnect the Orange power wire at the actual wiper motors connector, the unit stops.  With the port switch connected and the Orange wire connected , all functions operate except “Park” (or stop)

The middle and starboard wipers operate correctly.

My boat is a 2006 (32-276). The wiper motor AM 230-1002.
The wiper assembly is 230-1065.
The relay is Tyco #VF4A-41F11.
The system including the relays are stamped 2005.

Although not the issue, two of the wiper switches were literally just installed ,  “Carling Technologies, LW1A11Z-1165100- XCS1. 8A, 14v .

This week I bought 3 new switches.  I had planned on replacing two of the switches , one with a broken toggle and the Port switch, as like most the Postings, I initially thought or maybe hoped that might correct the run away wiper.  The third switch ( starboard)  is original to the build date.

I have read through all of the available Sentoa Archives, but I was unable to locate a post (s) that gives a positive final solution.

  1. Did just replacing the wiper motor itself solve problem  (AM230-1003)
  2. Or is it necessary to replace the wiper motor assembly (230-1065) to solve the problem

I have contacted AM but it was difficult for the tech that I spoke to, give the answer to questions that I have posed above.

Thank you,

We had this problem on our NT 32-238.  It has AMEquipment coast-to-park wipers.  After replacing the starboard wiper transmission, the starboard wiper continued to run after turning the switch "off".  I noticed that if I depressed the wiper knob to actuate the washer, then the wiper would stop as it should.  As I had very recently replaced the house battery bank, I guessed that the lessend drag of the new transmission and the additional voltage from the fresh batteries was just enough to speed up the wiper motor to over-run the "park" section in the motor, and the additional load from the washer pump dropped the voltage sufficiently to slow the motor.  My remedy was to install four 3 amp diodes in series on the orange "coast-to-park" lead (one through three diodes did not drop the voltage sufficiently!).  Apparently, overshoot occurs when the voltage on the park lead exceeds 12.5 Vdc.  It has worked perfectly since 2021.
